About the KickStarter Fund

 

The Education Group funding (TEG) provides students with grants of up to £5,000 to develop their early-stage businesses.

This funding is available to all participants of our Kick Start Programme who require further support in order to start-up their business. This funding is available to all current UWS students and recent graduates from our Scottish and London campuses.

This funding is a Grant which means that successful applicants will not be required make any repayments.

What is this funding for?

This Grant can help you to pay for start-up costs, but can also help towards other payments, including the following:

  • Legal fees for setting up a legal entity for the enterprise, and/or registration as a charity or Community Interest Company

  • Rent

  • Website, branding and marketing materials

  • Business Stationery

  • Insurance

Application Process

Once submitted, your application will be reviewed by our team and if your idea is eligible, we will contact you within 2 weeks to undertake an assessment. This informal assessment will be online and provides you another opportunity to discuss your idea, motivation, and plans with your start-up business.

Social Entrepreneurs Fund – Build it

About this Funding

 

Up to £25,000 of funding for individuals who have tried and tested an idea and want to turn it into their full-time job.

You can apply for this funding if your social enterprise idea is already off the ground, and has been trading for two years or less and can demonstrate a strong track record of both income generation and measurable social impact.

Applicants must also meet the eligibility criteria, which can be downloaded and read in the Application Guide on the First Port website.

What is this funding for?

Build It is for social entrepreneurs who have tried and tested a social enterprise idea and want to turn it into their full-time job. This funding is awarded four times per year. You can apply for up to £20,000 to fund a single salary.

 

First Port will consider funding up to a further £5,000 for additional essential costs, such as hiring other staff. However, the maximum amount is granted in rare instances when applicants can present a particularly strong case.

Application Process

Shortlisted applications will be expected to attend a Practice Your Pitch and Cash Flow Challenge session in the lead up to a compulsory pitch to our panel.  All applicants will be contacted regarding whether they have been successful or unsuccessful.
